Bermuda is a popular cruise port especially when sailing from the northeast home ports. Most itineraries come with a 1 to 2 night stay allowing you plenty of time to sightsee and explore this wonderful island. So what are some things you can see and do in Bermuda?

Beaches

Bermuda is probably most known for its pink sand beaches. Their most visited and photographed beach is Horseshoe Bay. A widely popular stop it is something to see. They have beach equipment rentals and food on location so you can make the most of your time there. I always bring my own tubes and snorkel gear from home to save on some money while traveling. For families with small children, you can opt to go to the right of the beach where you will find Baby Beach. It’s a calmer beach due to the rock formations and it’s great for the kids to have fun.

Some other notable beaches is Snorkel Beach which is walking distance from the Royal Naval Dockyard

where most ships dock. This beach might be a nice option for you if you don’t have a lot of time in Bermuda. Tobacco Bay is also another spot to consider. The bay is surrounded by stone and creates a separation from the ocean and the waves making the water shallow & calm and a nice spot for snorkeling.

Gibb’s Lighthouse

For panoramic views and great photos of the island of Bermuda, consider paying a visit to Gibb’s Hill Lighthouse in Southampton Parish. Built in 1846 by British Royal Engineers, the 117-foot tall lighthouse is one of the first in the world to be made of cast-iron and is now only one of two of this kind still in existence.

Golf

Bermuda is home of seven world class golf courses. With the extended stay at Bermuda, playing a round of golf is a great option to experience for those avid golfers.

Crystal and Fantasy Caves

Descend 120 feet below ground to explore the subterranean world of the Crystal Cave. Discovered by two boys in 1907 it is estimated to be at least one million years old.  You will see stalagmites and stalactites and walk across a pontoon bridge over a hidden crystal-clear lake within the cave that rises and falls with the sea tides. It’s a wonderful sight to see. There are a lot of steps to go down and then back up so keep that in mind if you have difficulty walking or climbing. Fantasy Caves is Crystal’s sister cave which is smaller and has a deeper lake.

Bermuda Aquarium, Natural History Museum and Zoo

My husband loves aquariums and zoos. No matter what destination we are in, we always try to go visit the aquarium and zoo and Bermuda’s was no different for us. The aquarium and zoo are in walking distance of each other. They are small but it is an enjoyable afternoon. The National Museum of Bermuda is where you can learn about the impact humans have on Bermuda’s ecosystem through interactive exhibits.

Front Street

Front street is located in the capital of Bermuda, Hamilton. Here you will find shopping, restaurants and bars and watching locals go to work in the colorful buildings. My family ate at the Pickled Onion located right on Front Street. This restaurant has been featured on the Food Network.

If your ship will be docking overnight on a Wednesday night, you can see Bermuda’s Harbour Nights. Every Wednesday night during the summer, Front street lines the street with a street fair that includes a parade, performers, local vendors and cuisine.

Catamaran Ride

One of the fun things to do in Bermuda in the evening, is board a sleek catamaran and sail into the sunset. The captain of this offbeat catamaran cruise encourages guests to dress in all white for a fun and festive evening that includes a spectacular sunset and rum cocktails or champagne.

*Bonus Tip – For couples docking in Royal Naval Dockyard, don’t miss walking through the Moongate! With origins from China, when couples walk through the moongate, hand in hand, it is said to bring the couple good luck and happiness for years to come. The one in the Dockyard is actually one of 40 moogates on the island.
