Leigh and I went to Pier 88 in New York City on a guided tour of Norwegian’s brand new ship, Breakaway. Our ship inspection was being conducted right before passengers were about to set sail on a 7 night cruise to Bermuda.
When passengers first enter the Breakaway, they are instantly greeted with lively music and crew members to get you excited for a week of fun. My first steps into the ship reminded me of sitting into a brand new car. I swear it had a new “ship smell”. I instantly loved the decor everywhere we went. It was modern with clean, straight lines and filled with a classy, chic design.
The first stop in our tour was on deck 16 of the ship as we entered Norwegian’s “The Haven”. Like Norwegian’s other ships, the Haven is geared toward the cruiser looking for it’s own sanctuary and pampering, these staterooms in the Haven offer single or multiple bedrooms, with living spaces and access to a private courtyard. It also includes 24 hour butler, concierge service and private restaurant and bar.
Here are some snapshots of the rooms in The Haven.
The Haven Courtyard and Lounge
Continuing with the modern decor, the remaining staterooms (pictured below) provide accommodations for each cruisers preferences and needs. The Breakaway is Norwegian’s first line to offer Studio staterooms for the solo passengers. This complex is key accessed, includes a private lounge and designed and priced for the solo passenger. It was quite a unique space and the lounge looked like a wonderful space to mingle or just to relax.
Studio Cabins
After touring the staterooms, we were free to explore all of the public areas of the ship. I have highlighted some pictures below with captions to give you what I think are some nice features on the ship.
The Aqua Park and Sports Complex is a fun space for kids, teens and adults. It has 5 multistory slides, rock climbing wall, basketball court, a 9 hole mini golf course and a rope course. It also has a plank that extends 8 feet out into the sea for the adventurous types.
Part of Norwegian’s Freestyle Cruising, Breakaway offers 28 dining options and 22 Bars and Lounges. Something for everyone’s tastes. Including, Geoffrey Zakarian’s Ocean Blue, Buddy Valastro’s Carlo’s Bake Shop and a unique bar called Ice Bar which is kept at 17 degree Fahrenheit. The Waterfront along Deck 8 is a wonderful space where you can walk along the ship that is lined with shops, restaurants and bars. It also includes a Sabrett Hot Dog stand like you will find on the New York City streets.
This ship has so much to offer. On every cruise, for the first time on Breakaway, they are displaying a fireworks display entitled Spice H2O Fireworks. I recommend Breakaway for families and for people who like to be active and try new things.
