🚢 Royal Caribbean Will Now Charge $30 for Early Cabin Assignment

Royal Caribbean has introduced Early Assign, a new optional add-on for eligible guests who’ve booked a guarantee stateroom.

With a guarantee cabin, you book a category — say, a balcony guarantee — instead of a specific room, and the cruise line assigns your exact cabin closer to sailing. The tradeoff has always been the same: often a lower fare, in exchange for giving up control over your cabin’s exact location.

Early Assign changes the timing of that tradeoff. For $30 per stateroom, eligible guests can find out their assigned cabin sooner than they otherwise would.

What it does not do: guarantee a specific deck, view, or cabin location. You’re paying for certainty sooner — not for a better outcome. Eligibility and booking windows also apply, so it isn’t available on every guarantee booking.

🏰 Disney Cruise Line Is Getting Bigger

Disney had several announcements at D23 this past weekend:

  • Disney Cruises from San Diego continue expanding.
  • Disney Wish is heading to Europe.
  • Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are returning to Alaska.
  • A new ship class is coming in 2029 — sized between the smaller Magic-class ships and Disney’s newer, larger vessels.

Ship size matters beyond capacity: a mid-sized ship can reach ports that are impractical for Disney’s larger ships, which opens the door to new itineraries and destinations that haven’t been part of Disney’s cruise lineup before.

🌎 2028 Cruise Itineraries Are Already Opening

If 2028 feels far off, cruise lines don’t think so — itineraries are already being released:

  • Princess Cruises has opened 2028 Alaska itineraries.
  • Celebrity Cruises announced a major 2028–2029 deployment covering Alaska, Europe, Japan, Hawaii, Australia/New Zealand, South America, and Antarctica.

If you’re planning a bucket-list trip — a specific Alaska cabin, cruisetour, sailing date, or suite — waiting indefinitely for the lowest fare can mean losing the exact booking you want. Popular categories and dates sell out well before the “best price” ever materializes.

🛳️ Norwegian Aura: New Details Revealed

Norwegian Cruise Line released more details on Norwegian Aura, debuting in 2027:

  • A new Thermal Suite with 15 wellness experiences, including a Sensory Rain Pool that cycles through different weather effects.
  • Tamara — NCL’s first specialty restaurant dedicated to Indian cuisine.
  • The Panorama Room — a dining venue using large LED displays, lighting, and audio for an immersive setting.
  • Redesigned restaurants and lounges, family activity spaces, and additional Ocean Heights-style relaxation areas.

Also this week: NCL launched a limited-time CruiseNext Triple Up promotion — guests with three CruiseNext certificates can apply them toward a balcony or higher reservation, subject to eligibility rules. The offer ends August 25, 2026, so check your account soon if you’re holding certificates. As always, read the fine print on eligibility before assuming you qualify.

🧳 GYB Tip of the Week: When Should You Book Your Cruise?

There’s no single date that guarantees the lowest fare — but there is a better way to think about timing than chasing a mythical price drop.

Start by naming your real priority. Are you after:

  • The lowest possible fare?
  • A specific cabin or balcony location?
  • Connecting cabins?
  • A suite?
  • A specific sailing date or a bucket-list itinerary (Alaska cruisetour, for example)?

Your priority changes the right strategy. If price is everything, you can afford to wait and watch. If you want a specific cabin, date, or itinerary, book early — those sell out long before fares bottom out.

Know the repricing policy before you wait. Some cruise lines let you rebook at a lower fare before final payment if the price drops; others restrict price adjustments to new bookings only, meaning you can’t just cancel and rebook. This detail matters as much as the price itself, and it’s easy to miss.
