In a monumental move set to redefine the cruise industry, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) has officially commissioned Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to construct four groundbreaking cruise ships. This historic agreement, valued at approximately €9 billion ($9.34 billion), stands as Fincantieri’s largest order to date.
Each of these colossal vessels will weigh around 226,000 gross tons and boast the capacity to accommodate over 8,300 individuals, including passengers and crew. This impressive capacity surpasses that of Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, which, at 248,663 gross tons, can carry up to 7,600 passengers at maximum occupancy.
The construction of these ships will take place at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard in Italy. The first vessel is slated for delivery in 2030, with the subsequent three ships expected to be completed by 2036. This initiative marks a significant expansion for NCLH, which has previously collaborated with Fincantieri on the delivery of three other ships.
This development not only underscores NCLH’s commitment to innovation and growth but also signals a new era in cruise ship design and passenger capacity. As the industry continues to evolve, passengers can anticipate even more luxurious and expansive experiences on the horizon.
