Norwegian Gem Review

January 3rd, 2013 | Posted by grab your bags in Cruises

Leigh and I were given the opportunity to take a guided tour of the Norwegian Gem at Pier 88 located in the New York Terminal in New York City. Our four hour tour was conducted while passengers was starting their embarkation to set me & leighsail on a 7 night cruise to the Caribbean.

As you first enter the Gem, you are greeted by a jester and lively music which immediately brings you to a place of fun and excitement of whats to come. It was a nice feeling of warmth as we came in from frigid temperatures from the city.

Our first stop was on the upper decks of the ship as we entered Norwegian’s “The Haven”. Geared toward the cruiser looking for it’s own sanctuary and pampering, these staterooms in the Haven offer multiple bedrooms, access to a private courtyard and includes a butler and concierge service.

Here are some snapshots of the rooms in The Haven.

Next, we visited the other staterooms on the Gem as pictured below. All of the rooms appeared to be roomy and decorated nicely.

Part of Norwegian’s Freestyle Cruising, the Gem offers 11 different dining options. Seven of them do require an additional fee to dine. On all of the Norwegian ships they do not offer set dining hours or tables. You can go dinner when you want and not have to sit at the same table every night. For those who would like a little more structured feel and less wait on their cruise. It is recommended that you plan your dining in advance and make reservations. The smaller more popular restaurants tend to get more busy toward the end of the cruise, so you may want to make reservations for those restaurants at the beginning of the cruise.

We weren’t able to sample all 11 of the restaurants, but as we dined in the main dining room, they did give us a full course meal with each course being sampled from a different restaurant.

As much as we enjoyed the tour of the Gem, four hours was certainly not enough time to enjoy this enormous ship. Looking forward to a longer stay for an experience that I am sure will be wonderful. For more information about the Gem, contact us for a free consultation and quote!

Sailing off,

Angela
