In Febuary of 2016, I took my husband, two children and mother in-law on the Disney Dream for a 4 night itinerary out of Port Canaveral, Florida to Nassau and their private island, Castaway Cay.
We stayed in the Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom to accommodate all of us inside one cabin. The fifth person slept on a Murphy bed that was pulled down each night. I have to say, even with all of our luggage, I never felt cramped or congested sharing a room among 3 adults and 2 children. Disney Cruise Line has in most of their cabins, like this one, two separate bathrooms so getting ready in the morning and for dinner was always convenient.
This was our second sailing with Disney Cruise Line. I was quite impressed on how “thankful” the cruise line was toward us for being returning guests. We received lanyards and this very nice beach tote being a Castaway Club member. Usually you need to be on many cruises before you start receiving any kind of perks with other cruise lines.
I had the good fortune of touring the Disney Dream before which you can read about my experience here. So for this post, I will just share my experience as a guest. The Dream holds around 4000 guests on board. Compared to other ships that hold the same amount of guests, I never felt like I was on a ship with that many people except for 2 places. My children felt the difference in the Oceaneers Club. They found it harder this time compared to being on the Magic to get to use a device or section of the club that wasn’t being used up by other children. The other place I noticed that we had 4000 guests was at Cataway Cay on the beach. It was harder to find available chairs compared to my last visit. But we did take our time getting them cause my mind set was on how easy it was finding chairs last time we were there. None the less, in both places it was fine. The kids still had a great time in the kids club (as did I ) and we found chairs and had a spectacular day at Castaway Cay.
To me, what separates Disney Cruise Line from all the rest of the cruise lines is service and entertainment. Well hey, it’s Disney! I expect you would think I would say that about it’s entertainment and it’s true. Whether you have small children, adolescent (like mine), teens, adults or just big kids at heart, there is something for everybody. We rode the Aquaduck. Watched first run movies by the pool and even in 3D in their movie theater. We saw amazing night time shows, played trivia games, mini golf and learned how to draw some of our favorite characters. Meeting the characters is always a thrill for us and unlike the character greetings in the parks, these are more personal and special no matter who you meet
From the greeting to when you first walk onto the ship to your room steward, your servers that stay with you every night, to the cruise director and the entertainment staff, all of your finest details is always met and with a big smile on their face too : ) They truly made us feel special and welcomed. I can certainly get spoiled when our server comes over to cut our meat and specially prepare my souffle.
I took lots of video and pictures on this cruise in hopes to visually show you our experience each day on our voyage. So be sure to check out Day 1 below and all of the video that will soon follow.
